About:
Pidgin Perfect was invited by Parisian-born conceptual artist Cyril Duval, working under the name Item Idem, to assist with the conceptual design development for the stage set of 'Pierrot Lunaire', a contemporary and provocative twist on opera directed by Bruce LaBruce.
The project was the first ever staging of Arnold Schönberg’s melodrama Pierrot Lunaire, with Bruce LaBruce transforming the Schönberg opera into a one-hour-long gender-bending tale of impossible love, guilt, and confusion.
Staged at Hebbel Am Ufer in Berlin the stage set reflected the typically neo-expressionist aesthetic of Item Idem and employed both Item Idem's and Pidgin Perfect's passion for blending art, fashion and design to create complex and communicative space. The central feature of the stage set was the large deconstructed projection screen which was key to adding further dimensions, motility and drama to the space.
